OK, there is a phenomenon on Flickr I like to call “the obscure Rollins reference” whereby people seem to be able to see a Henry Rollins element to the subject of their photographs that those less preoccupied with Henry Rollins would be unable to detect. To the untrained eye, these photos have absolutely so relevance to Henry Rollins whatsoever.

Take this photo for example. Isn’t it just a duck splashing about in some water? Nope! Take a closer look. Apparently the duck is having a hissy fit, flapping about like a madman, it’s ANGRY, so it’s kinda like Henry Rollins, right? right? get it? It’s an angry duck, OMG it’s a Henry Rollins duck!!!!

And that my friends, is the obscure Rollins reference.

I love it.

This is a bit of a plug for some items the folk behind Hello Henry have for sale up on eBay right now. Among other things there’s a great series of photos taken at a show in 1990. You can check out the auctions here. Here’s one of the pics - pretty cool huh?

If there are any Rollins fans out there who are a similar vintage to me and were on the internets in the mid 1990s, you might recall this gem of an email that was on the infamous Henry Rollins’ Stuff fansite and probably did the rounds on the Rollins-Talk mailing list as well.

Our good friend Yorick at Rollins Causes has alerted us to the fact that the fake “Henry Rollins” on Twitter has reached almost 10,000 followers. That means another 4000 people have been sucked in since we first announced it was fake.

In our site stats we can see that a few curious souls are finding our posts on this subject from the Googles, but not many. Which is puzzling, because when you type “henry rollins and twitter” or “is henry rollins on twitter?” into the googles, Hello Henry is in the top three results.

So I can only assume this means that few people question the authenticity of the Henry Rollins on Twitter or simply aren’t curious enough to google it.
